Podcast 18: The Spirit of Jesus
Jesus had a vital connection and relationship with the Holy Spirit beginning with His birth and throughout His earthly ministry. In this episode we will be studying the presence of the Holy Spirit at the births of John and Jesus. Then we will continue with the baptism of Jesus when the Spirit, as a dove alighted on the shoulder of Jesus, to the wilderness, and on through His public ministry, and finally to the cross.
John’s birth is foretold to his father Zechariah.
Luke 1:13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. ... 15 for he will be great before the Lord. And he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
Luke 4:1 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, was led by the Spirit in the wilderness.
