Podcast 19: A Friend Forever

Play

This episode is part 3 of the series on the Holy Spirit. Jesus told His disciples that when He ascended to heaven, He would ask the Father to send another Helper to be with them forever. This divine Helper, is called the Paraclete in Greek, which means someone who is called or summoned to come near or come along side. The Paraclete is also an advocate, a comforter, an encourager, and a helper.

During His earthly ministry, Jesus had guided, guarded, and taught His disciples; but now He was going to leave them. The Spirit of God would come to the disciples and dwell in them, taking the place of their Master’s presence.

He even said that it was a very good thing that He was leaving them and that the Holy Spirit would come upon them.

“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you.” John 16:7

His last words to them were to tarry in Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father.

“I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:49

“And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father,” Acts 1:4
