A Bible Reading Race to Jerusalem and a Mid Winter Conference in Lancaster, PA
The Race, to kick off the New Year
I just completed reading the bible from Genesis to Revelation for 2015 and have two free days to read whatever I wish. I am already anticipating reading in Genesis and Matthew to begin 2016.
This past month I used an online tool to keep track of how many chapters I read each day and how many days I read consistently. Every day at 4:30 PM I received an email asking if I had read today and how many chapters. I hit reply and typed a number.
At any time I can go on the site and see how many days I have read in a row and how many chapters. This site is usually for physical fitness and keeps a record of how many miles you run, walk, swim, or row. Kayla at the Racery is working with me to change miles to chapters to suit my needs.
Since the daily results are plotted on a map, I chose to make a route from Lancaster, PA to Pittsburgh, PA for a practice run. Each day my progress is charted on the map. If you would like to see my progress for December log on here.
Beginning on January 1, this coming Friday, I will be starting a new “race” for all who receive this letter, with one chapter equaling one mile, from St Louis to Jerusalem. I had fun working on the route and you will notice it goes through some interesting places, like Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, Slovenia, Greece and Turkey.
If you would like to participate sign up here. Click on ‘Teams’ select ‘Disciples’, then sign up. You will receive an email with further instructions.
There are no financial prizes, just a fun way to encourage one another to read the word of God daily and see how far we can go together as a team. If one hundred (100) of us each read 3-4 chapters per day we will make it to Jerusalem by January 31. I named our team the ‘Disciples’.
If you are interested in the bible reading plan I follow you can find it here. I use the NT and Psalms concurrently with the OT Reading Schedule.
