Someday
I was watching a movie recently when one of the characters reflected, “Someday usually means never.” By God’s grace, may that not be true for us. If you have ever thought “Someday I am going to read the Old Testament all the way through from Genesis to Malachi” then join us in this pursuit in 2026.
“Someday” begins in two weeks. If we begin reading Genesis 1-3 on January 1, by January 7 we will have read Genesis 1-19. Each week we will discuss these chapters on the Building Faith and Family podcast.
Throughout the year, very Wednesday a new podcast will be posted sharing my observations and discussing some of the key features of each week’s Bible Reading. Several years ago I was asked to make a written transcript of each episode in addition to the audio portion, so for those of you who would rather read than listen, these are available as well.
Encourage One Another
The writer of Hebrews exhorts us to, “Consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” (Hebrews 10:24) This is my way of fulfilling this passage. Many of us have begun reading the Bible on our own, then when we falter, or encounter puzzling passages, we are discouraged and give up. I am hoping that as we progress through the Bible from Genesis to Malachi, together, we will be helped to press on when the going gets tough.
When I began my journey of reading the Bible through each year way back in 1976, I was a part of a church body that was engaged in the same pursuit. It made a huge difference knowing that I was not alone in my quest, but that we were all moving through the Word of God at a similar pace.
Now is the Acceptable Time
As the days around us grow darker, we need to take steps to deepen our walks with God. Devoting time each day to reading and meditating on the inspired words of God have been a lifeline for me for decades.
In 2 Corinthians 6:2, we find this phrase, “Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” I hope you will join me, and Scott my co-host, for making 2026 the best year yet in faithfully seeking, and finding, God in His Word. With the help of the Good Spirit, we will be making a special effort to “see Jesus” throughout the Old Testament.
The schedule we will be following is found on the Building Faith Families website under Bible Resources.
