Family Dynamics

The Family That Stays Together Stays Together

God created marriage and the family. Home education is a lifestyle of learning where parents and children do life together. Working, eating, reading books aloud, watching movies, all contribute to creating the unique chemistry of family.

Family Communication

Loving God and each other are relationships. Relationships are built on edifying communication. No one can build up, or tear down, more than those that we love the most. In this workshop we will examine how to hear and understand each other in a safe place.

Five Ways to Encourage and Support Your Wife

Steve and Sandi have been married for 47 years and have homeschooled four sons for 21 of those years. Learn how a husband can become a positive, involved, supportive helpmeet. Learn what Steve did well and how he could have done better.

Strategies for Building Up and Understanding Your Children

In the spirit of how God the Father loved Jesus His Son, we can deduce practical ideas on how to love, build up, and understand our children. We will also examine what Paul means when he says “Fathers do not exasperate your children.”

Home Education

Home Education or School at Home?

When we began our journey of teaching our children we purchased several little desks at a yard sale and refinished them. Then we acquired textbooks and workbooks and taped the alphabet to the walls around our school room. Later we moved to the kitchen table, and finally we discovered a well rounded education is not confined to a classroom, but embodies character, relationships, and God.

Your Child is Never Behind

Steve explores the efficacy of tutoring versus classroom instruction. Classroom teachers move at the book’s pace, tutors move at the student’s pace. He also shares insights into how to make learning interesting, memorable, and enjoyable from his experiences as a teacher and tutor.

Math Education

Math You See and Understand

Math is so much more than memorizing rules and facts. With a unique and humorous approach, Steve demonstrates how to use hands-on manipulatives to illustrate important math concepts such as place value, double digit multiplication, fractions, algebra, exponents, squares, square roots, and factoring trinomials.

Fundamentals of Algebra Taught Concretely

Instead of mere symbols on paper, Steve demonstrates with manipulatives, the central concepts of algebra: problem solving, exponents, squares, square roots, negative numbers, basic operations with polynomials, factoring trinomials, and graphing lines. Come and experience an “Aha” moment.

Especially for Men

Crisis to Christ, the Journey of a Husband and Father

I thought I was doing well teaching my children God’s Word and living out my faith in our home. Then came the hardest and best year of my life, as God, with the help of my family, revealed my blindspots and baggage, while simultaneously making me know that I was loved unconditionally. Today I am in a great place in my relationship with God and my family.

Special Needs

Raising a Special Needs Child and Finding Support for the Journey

Come listen to Steve’s testimony of the last thirty-eight years as the father of a child with special needs. He shares what his family has learned, and the special, rewarding, and joyful role John has played in their lives. Even in the difficult experiences of life, God proved faithful and His grace sustained them and brought good out of their struggles and disappointments.

Family Discipleship

Turning the Heart of Fathers and Children

Successful home education, or home based discipleship, begins with hearts turned towards God and each other. As God works in each of our hearts, especially fathers, families will flourish.

Reading the Bible Individually and As a Family

Steve relates the ingredients for a regular plan for reading God’s Word individually as well as a blueprint for family worship. Learn how God helped the Demmes make studying God’s word a daily part of their home. Steve also shares obstacles he wrestled with in leading his family in this crucial area.

Great News for Earnest Parents

Believing the Gospel in our innermost being is transformative and restorative. We can only give to our children what we have received ourselves. As we comprehend God’s care and affection in new ways, we will be able to minister the same to our families.
