What:


Hope, Information, and Encouragement for Home Educators
The only one of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic States for 2020. This family education event is being sponsored by Building Faith Families.


Where:


Spruce Lake Retreat Center, 5389 PA-447, Canadensis, PA 18325. sprucelake.org


When:


Friday August 21 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday August 22 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Come for one day or spend the night and attend both days.


Speakers:


Steve Demme and his wife Sandi began homeschooling their four sons (the youngest has Down Syndrome) in the early 1980s. He is the creator of Math-U-See and the founder of Building Faith Families.


Gretchen Roe has 21+ years of home education experience with her six children, five of whom are now college graduates. With a degree in Psychology and Child Development, she has spent the last 26 years in positions of homeschool advocacy, having a special bond with families of children who have to work harder to learn.


Denise Groves is the coordinator of the Christian Homeschool Association of Pennsylvania annual conference and Co-Host of Chattin’ with CHAP. She and her husband Greg have been home-educating their 7 children since 2000.


Ginger Wayde and her husband Steve serve on the board of CHAP and homeschool their 6 children. She is the co-host of Chattin’ with CHAP and well-versed in the state laws of PA related to homeschooling.


Sessions will include these topics with more being added:

• How do I begin?
• What does a typical day look like?
• How can dad be involved?
• What are the state requirements for Pennsylvania and New York?
• Am I qualified to be the primary educator of my children?
• How to find a support group and a coop to join?
• What are the pluses and minuses of joining a coop or support group?
• What if my child has special needs?
• How do I make teaching math fun and understandable?


How Much:


$20.00 per day per person. This covers registration and includes a buffet lunch. Preregister online by August 16. Children 6-11 are $10.00 per day and children 5 and under are $2.50 per day and which includes lunch.




Network:


Meet others from your area, network, be refreshed, enjoy the swimming pool, go for a hike. In the evening you can sing around the camp fire, visit the snack bar, and go for a wagon ride.


Getaway:


Invite a friend or two and plan a weekend getaway for yourselves.


How Long:


Come for the day or spend a few nights.


Overnight Guests:


The standard rate for Spruce Lodge rooms during the prime summer months is $179 per room for one night.


The SPECIAL PROMOTION is $139/room for one night or $109/room/night if you stay for 2 or more nights. Call Spruce Lake 800.822.7505 to make your room reservations and meal selections. Meal rates are discounted to half price for children ages 6-11. Ages 5 and under are free.


If you are spending the night at Spruce Lake, you do not need to register but instead please email Steve Demme sdemme@demmelearning.com so I know you are coming.

Used Curriculum:
